On building small things
I enjoy building small things. Building a comfortable chair that won’t be noticed in a restaurant excites me. Building the world’s greatest restaurant sparks no excitement. I want to build small things with as much detail as I can, with as much love as I can.
A chair won’t change the world, the world’s best restaurant might, in some way. But can that match the happiness of watching people sit down on your chair, sipping coffee, having pleasant conversation and the chair not coming in their way. The satisfaction of seeing it being absorbed in their reality like thin air. Barely noticeable but essential.
Focusing on bigger things takes up more mental space because of so many unknowns. It’s hard to focus. Building small things is a focused work. It makes better use of the skill-set.
You don’t make a website. You make the landing page first. Then you make the product page and so on. You build small things. Add details. Add love. Website takes care of itself.
So, I enjoy building small things.
